Our field trip to the Hampton AMC to see Wonder is on Tuesday morning. Please remember to send in a bag lunch unless you signed up for a school bag lunch. Thank you for getting those permission slips and movie fee in so quickly so that so many students are going to be able to go! We are very excited!
Our holiday party is on Tuesday, December 19. Thank you for those of you who signed up to donate. We really appreciate it and will let you know if there is anything else we need.
Next Wednesday, December 20 is Early Close and our vacation is from December 21-January 1.

Report Card Week
Hi everyone!
Report cards are coming home Monday. Please sign the envelope and send it back to school.
We are having an author visit on Monday. Students may buy autographed book for $15.

We are having the Book Fair this week. Students are invited to bring money in order to buy books.
Our class will be going on Tuesday and Wednesday this week during class time but students are also invited to go before school any day this week.
We are requesting that families not go see the movie Wonder as we would like to see it as a group after we finish reading the book in our classrooms.
The Family Lunch is this Thursday from 11:35-12:15. We hope you can make it!
Family Fitness night is this Thursday after school from 6:00-8:00.
We are collecting nonperishable food and monetary donations to be given to the Salvation Army. We are taking donations from now until November 20. Thank you for anything you can spare.
Thanksgiving Vacation is next week- No school on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.

Mad Science and CSA's

And just to add a little fun we are having a Mad Science opportunity for students to be the scientists on Tuesday afternoon. There is a sign up on Google Classroom and students are encouraged to do a fun science experiment or demonstration for their classmates.
Finally, remember the Elements Project is due Monday. This is worth a test grade and ten points are taken off each day it is late.

This week in our Homeroom
We will have a visitor from the Virginia Air and Space Museum and Guidance with Mrs. Adams.
CSA's will be the last week in October for all 4 subjects. Start studying!
Students in my Language Arts and Science classes can always ask to come see me during Intervention to make up missing work, improve a grade or get extra help. Intervention is on Day 3 and Day 6 during Long Resource.
We could really use pencils, student scissors, books for our library, Scotch tape and Duck tape.

Progress reports will be coming home on Thursday. I am scheduling parent/teacher conferences for Monday, October 9 and a later date will be in November. If you would like to schedule a conference with me for next Monday and you did not receive an invite, please e-mail me at mphillips@hampton.k12.va.us and I will send you an invite for the remaining slots. Thanks!
We will be going to the Hampton History Museum on Thursday. Please make sure your child has brought back his/her permission slip. We will be eating at school when we return so students do not need a special lunch.
Monday will be an Early Release day and students will be dismissed at 1:49.

Spirit Week and Forms
FORMS!!!
Please send back the emergency form, HERE form and the Rights and Responsibilities form located in your child's Agenda Book as soon as possible. Teachers have been asked to contact all families about returning these forms. Thank you for your help in getting these back to school!
Next week is Spirit Week:
Monday = PJ Day
Tuesday = Twin Day
Wednesday= Wild Kingdom Day
Thursday= Throwback Thursday
Friday= Spirit Day
Students have been given a Homework Calendar and the Word Study Homework. Both of these should stay in your child's Homework folder. The Calendar will let you know of homework assignments and and the Homework gives your child the instructions for the weekly homework including that it is due on Day 5 each week and studying should take place in order to take the test on Day 6. Students also need to record the word sort each week and choose one additional activity from the list of choices to turn in their Word Study Homework. This should be hand-written and not submitted electronically.
Fridays are our Reading Celebration Day. Any week when your child has completed a book he/she may submit an application to celebrate their success. Some of the choices include wearing PJ's, bringing a stuffed animal to read to, bringing a flashlight, having a snack and reading to another class. We are really excited about our reading and proud to celebrate our success!

First Week of School and Back to School Night
Our first week of school is over and we had a great week! Thank you so much to all of the parents who were able to come in and help get us set up and for all of the donations to the classroom. We truly appreciate all of your help and contributions!
We will have a Back to School Night on Monday, September 11 from 6:00-8:00. We hope you can stop by to visit your child's classrooms, meet their teachers, sign up for clubs and get more info. We will also be getting students set up with their locks so we would appreciate you helping your child try out their combination and collecting the $5.00 student fee.
Picture Day is on Wednesday, September 13. Picture order forms will be coming home on Monday.
Communicators will be coming home each Monday. Please send these back the following day plus any forms that have come home that need to be filled out.
You can also stay informed about your child's behavior and classroom events and announcements by joining Class Dojo. So please use the code that we send home to get connected.

Welcome to Fifth Grade!
Hello! My name is Mrs. Phillips and I will be your Language Arts and/or Science teacher this year. I am so happy to have you in my class! This is a picture of my daughter, son, dog and me so you will know who to look for on the first day. We will be having a Meet and Greet for elementary students from 3:30-5:00 PM at Kecoughtan High School on Thursday, August 31. I hope you can make it!
If you cannot make it to the Meet and Greet, then I look forward to seeing you on the first day of school on Tuesday, September 5. We will meet in the auditorium so look for a sign that says Mrs. Phillips and sit with me and your new classmates. Once everyone arrives we will wait walk to our new classroom, Room 220, together!
